Los Angeles selects Regional Connector contractor
USA: Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority has selected the Regional Connector Constructors joint venture of Traylor Bros and Skanska, with lead designers Hatch Mott MacDonald and URS, as preferred bidder for a $927m design-build contract for the Regional Connector light rail extension.
The 3 km underground route would extend the Blue/Expo Line north and east from 7th Street/Metro Center to meet the Gold Line, with an intermediate station at Little Tokyo/Arts District. Opening is forecast for 2020.
The Metro board also approved an additional $40m for the project, bringing its budget to $1·42bn. This is being funded partly through Measure R, a 0·5% sales tax approved by voters in 2008.
